Dungeon Defenders is a tower defense game where between one to four players work together to protect one or more Eternia Crystals from being destroyed by waves of increasing larger and more difficult enemy monsters. The game features a number of levels, consisting of around five total waves, through its campaign mode, or other levels as part of challenges; some of these levels may feature a final wave that includes a boss battle against a unique foe. The player characters defend crystals by either magically creating, maintaining, and upgrading towers or other defensive elements that damage or divert the enemy monsters, or by using melee and ranged attacks to defeat enemies directly. On easier difficulties, players have an indefinite amount of time prior to a wave to study the levels map to see where monsters will come from and the type or number of monsters, to place traps and defenses, and to manage the characters equipment. Traps and defenses are limited by the available mana that the character has - more mana can be obtained by killing monsters or opening chests that appear between waves - as well as a total "defense value" for the level, limiting the number of traps that can be placed. The characters can be damaged by enemy attacks, and can be killed in battle but will respawn after a few seconds, unless Hardcore mode is selected. If an Eternia Crystal has taken too much damage, it will be destroyed and the players will lose that level. Successfully defending a wave will earn the characters experience points in the form of banked mana based on the difficulty plus additional bonuses, such as preventing any damage to the crystals; successfully completing all waves of a level will earn the players a large banked mana boost. Monsters will also drop items that can be sold for additional banked mana.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories divides its gameplay between two different settings. The first section is set in a psychotherapists office and the second in a town called Silent Hill. In the first section, the player interacts with Dr. Michael Kaufmann, a therapist who is a non-player character, from a first-person perspective. The player responds to Kaufmanns questions and completes a psychological test, fills in a questionnaire or colours pictures. The players responses to these tests alters aspects of gameplay in the second setting, including the available areas, the physical appearance and behavior of characters encountered, and the physical appearance of the monsters. Shattered Memories returns to Kaufmanns office periodically throughout the game.

"We try to build what you would expect to see, and thats the game," explains system architect Andrew Willmott, meaning that visual effects such as traffic, economic troubles, and pollution will be more obvious. Two other new features are a multiplayer component and finite resources.
Unlike previous games in the series, the game will have non-orthogonal and curved roads and zoning areas that can conform to different road types. Types of zones will include residential, commercial and industrial. The density will be driven by the types of roads built around these zones.
Cities in a region are connected to each other via predefined regional networks such as highways, railways, and waterways. Elements such as traffic and air pollution will be visible flowing between cities. Cities in a region can trade resources between themselves or share public services like garbage collection or health care. Cities can also pool their collective wealth and resources to build a "great work" to provide benefits for the entire region like a massive solar power plant or an international airport. The larger the region, the higher is the number of cities and great works that can be built.

Being developed by Capcom, the core gameplay is similar to that of the Street Fighter series, incorporating elements such as Super Combos and EX Attacks. Players each choose two fighters from the Street Fighter and Tekken series, both sets of characters are controlled using the Street Fighter six-button system, but the Tekken characters are able to perform Tekken style combos using the primary four buttons in a similar fashion to the Tekken four-button system. These fighters can be switched out normally, or during certain combos. As fights go on, players build up power in a three sectioned meter at the bottom of the screen referred to as the Cross Gauge, which allow the player to perform various techniques depending on how much of the gauge is filled, such as EX Attacks, Cancels, Super Arts and various Cross techniques detailed below. Additionally, each fighter possesses one special attack that can be charged into an EX Attack or Super Art without any cost to the Cross Gauge. As opposed to the other crossover fighting games released by Capcom, in which the player must eliminate all the opponents fighters to win, victory conditions are more similar to Tekken Tag Tournament, in which the first player to have one of their fighters health bars reduced to zero loses the round, thereby the player who wins the most rounds wins the match.

The game opens from a first person view of the player being pulled out of what appears to be an underground cave by a group of scientists. The players character, "Zero", is confused and dazed as they take him to a military-grade secure facility. Zero fades in and out of consciousness, and eventually awakens to see two scientists performing surgery on him and extracting a disk-shaped object.

Soon after, a fellow alien contacts Zero through telepathy and says that it can sense other aliens in the facility and that they should escape together. The scientists then put Zero through an obstacle course where Zero is reunited with the disk they extracted, giving him back his power to teleport. After reabsorbing the disk, the players goal is to escape the facility and help any fellow aliens on the way out.
